Introducing Yourself at an Interview
Good morning. It's a pleasure for me to be here in front of you to present myself. My name is Jennifer Wong, and I am a candidate for the position of Overseas Sales Representative.
My background and work experience are tailor-made for this position. I studied marketing as an undergrad here in Taiwan, and in 1985, I received my MBA from the University of Texas School of Business. For five years now, I have utilized my skills and knowledge as the Assistant Director of Exports for Magic Kitchen Supplies.
Action Appliances is a forward-looking company. I am aware that you are expanding into new markets, particularly in the U.S. Thus you are going to need aggressive, take-charge sales representatives. At Magic Kitchen, during my five years there, we expanded our U.S. market share by 25%. This is just one example of my ability to go out there and sell products.
A position with your company would be both a learning experience and a great opportunity. I look forward to becoming part of the Action team. Thank you.
With her background and education, she is tailor-made to run this company.
If you want an MBA, it's important to get accepted to a good school.
Only the most forward-looking companies will adapt and profit in the 1990's.
We're looking for a take-charge company to distribute our new product in a competitive market.
After all of our TV sets were found to be defective, our market share dropped by 75%.

Introducing Yourself to Other Employees
Thank you, Mr. Gibson, for that kind introduction. You've given me a reputation I might not be able to live up to.
Just to let you know a little about myself. I'm the new Overseas Sales Representative. I came over from Magic Kitchen Supplies, a company you might be familiar with. There, I was responsible for exporting supplies to restaurants in the United States.
I got my MBA in the States, so I feel quite at home with that territory. Not surprisingly, I'll be heading up the U.S. and Canadian division of Action's sales force. We'll be concentrating our efforts in the West and Midwest, with an eye toward opening new markets in major metropolitan areas.
Action has just started out in overseas markets, and I look forward to hearing each of your views on our present and future projects. I may also need your advice, as I'm learning the ropes around here.
live up to 达到(期望,配合)
In college, his parents pressured him to live up to all of their expectations.
feel (quite) at home
I feel at home with numbers, so I want to study accounting.
When I was asked to head up the store's promotional contest, I said "Yes" right away.
The company's sales force is divided into smaller divisions which are responsible for a particular region.
with an eye toward
We'll open stores in Taichung and Kaohsiung next month, with an eye toward eventually controlling the market in those cities.
It didn't take her long to learn the ropes around here. Now she's the CEO.
1. Thank you, Mr. Gibson, for that kind introduction.
2. I appreciate the introduction, Mr. Gibson.
3. Thank you for the warm welcome, Mr. Gibson.
1. Just to let you know a little about myself.
2. I won't take up much of your time, but I just want to introduce myself.
3. Let me just briefly tell you a little about myself.
"let you know"等于 "tell you" ; "a little"和 "briefly"都是用来形容‘简短’的字汇。
1. I'll be heading up the U.S. and Canadian division of Action's sales force.
2. I'll be in charge of managing the American and Canadian accounts.
3. My main responsibilities will include directing our operations in the States and Canada.
关键词为"head up","division"。
1. I look forward to hearing each of your views on our present and future prospects.
2. I'm anxious to hear your feelings about our future plans.
3. My door is always open to your suggestions and ideas.
look forward to+n.

A Proposal to Your Superiors
Now that each of you has looked over my proposal, perhaps we could briefly go over it. One of Action's top-selling lines in Taiwan is its compact washer and dryer units, models TD369 and TW246. It's no secret that they sell well at home due to their compact size and high efficiency.
My idea is to market these best-selling products in the States. You may think most Americans prefer large washers and dryers, the main products of our competitors. By selling our combination units in the States, we can tap into markets with specialized needs, such as college students with small apartments, and single and elderly people who don't do a lot of laundry.
My primary data suggests that the market is nowhere near its saturation point. This leads me to believe that there is a need which can be filled by our products.
Of course, more research needs to be conducted before we give this project the green light, but I think it's worth considering. Now I'd like to hear your views on the subject.
It's no secret that …
It's no secret that Formosa Chemicals wants to take over the American company.
If we can tap into the children's market before our competitors, we can make a lot of money.
As the population diversifies, the number of consumers with specialized needs grows.
Your primary data looks good, but we'd like to see a more thorough analysis.
When one market reaches its saturation point, we must find new markets.
the green light 赞同,同意
As soon as you receive the green light, you can begin planning your sales trip.
1. Perhaps we could briefly go over it.
2. Let's have a look at the proposal.
3. Why don't we first go over the proposal?
1. My idea is to market these best-selling products in the States.
2. What I'd like to do is to market these best-selling products in the States.
3. My plan is to sell our top products to a new market in the States.
句子以"My idea (plan) is…"
1. This leads me to believe that there is a need which can be filled by our products.
2. The research points to the fact that our products will sell in this new market.
3. I can surmise, from the data that there is a definite new market for our products.
1. Now I'd like to hear your views on the subject.
2. I welcome your opinions on the subject.
3. What do you think about my proposal?

Introducing Yourself to New Clients
Good afternoon. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I'm Jennifer Wong from Action Appliances. I hope the two of you had a pleasant flight. Please take a seat.
As you know, Action is looking to expand into western Canada and the United States. What we need to get our foot in the door is a well-known distributor. To be perfectly honest, it would be quite a head start for us if we could secure a deal with a respected distributor like yourselves, Standard Suppliers.
I'll be responsible for the first round of negotiations here in Taipei. I hope we can make some definite headway during your stay in Taiwan. As the stakes get higher, so to speak , my supervisor, Mr. Cheng, will join us at the bargaining table.
And now, I'm sure you must have questions.
be looking to 希望,计划
With the demise of communism in Europe, we're looking to open new markets in Poland and Yugoslavia.
get one's foot in the door
It takes years of hard work to even get your foot in the door in the world of broadcast journalism.
With a head start in business, you can make it all the way to the top.
so to speak 可说是
Our editor in chief is, so to speak, a king in the office.
at the bargaining table
We decided to step up to the bargaining table and share our views with the other company.
1. It's a pleasure to finally meet you.
2. It's great to finally get a chance to know you.
3. At last, I've been looking forward to meeting you.
1. What we need to get our foot in the door is a well-known distributor.
2. Our main goal is to open doors for our products in the West with a respected distributor.
3. My company's top priority is to introduce our products to new markets in the West, and that requires a well-known distributor.
well known", "respected", 著名的。
1. I'll be responsible for the first round of negotiations here in Taipei.
2. My main role here is to get the negotiation process started.
3. I'll mainly be in charge of the first round of negotiations.
关键词为"responsible for", "in charge of"。
1. And now, I'm sure you must have questions.
2. And now, I'd be happy to answer your questions.
3. I'd like to turn the conversation over to you. Do you have any questions?

Introducing Your Company
In answer to your questions, Action Appliances has been manufacturing top quality appliances for 15 years now. We began selling rice cookers from one small shop in Taipei. At that time, we were strictly a mom-and-pop operation.
To keep up with overwhelming customer response, the company expanded rapidly. We improved our R&D department and enlarged our product lines to include washers and dryers, refrigerators, and microwave ovens. Our appliances are geared toward households with high needs but minimal space.
Taiwan is still our main market. As a matter of fact, you'll find at least one Action appliance in one out of three households in Taipei alone.
With a strong home base, we feel we're ready to move overseas. Recent consumer research efforts prove that over 40% of the appliance market in Canada and the United States consists of highly efficient, compact products. You'll find that our appliances meet these needs.
When I was a kid, my neighborhood streets were lined with mom-and-pop stores.
keep up with 配合,保持
We must keep up with demand if we're going to remain a profitable company.
We need to increase funding to our R&D department if we are going to compete with other innovative companies.
Our textbooks are geared toward the business students.
I'll report back to home base after I complete the meeting with the European buyers.
1. In answer to your questions, Action Appliances has been manufacturing top quality appliances for 15 years now.
2. Regarding your questions, Action Appliances has been in business for 15 years.
3. In response to your questions, Action has been producing top quality products for 15 years now.
regarding"及 "in response to"都有针对…
1. To keep up with overwhelming customer response, the company expanded rapidly.
2. Customer response was overwhelming, so we were able to expand steadily.
3. We grew quickly and steadily due to a strong customer response.
1. As a matter of fact, you'll find at least one Action appliance in one out of three households in Taipei alone.
2. In fact, our appliances are used in one out of three households in Taipei.
3. Actually, you'll find at least one Action appliance in one out of three households in Taipei.
用"as a matter of fact", "in fact"及 "actually"做为句子开头语,使谈话口语化,同时加强语气。
1. Recent consumer research efforts prove that over 40% of the appliance market in Canada and the States consists of highly efficient, compact products. 2. Marketing studies show that a market exists in Canada and the States for our compact products.
3. Recent consumer research leads us to believe that a market exists in Canada and the States for our appliances.

Mr. Mckenzie, Mr. Lloyd, let me take you to our showroom. I think you'll be interested in seeing some of our latest innovations in microwave ovens.
This is Action's pride and joy, the Kitchen Master. It's only a prototype but it's a prime example of our future line of smart products. We are all very excited about this oven. In trial runs, this product has performed very well.
Its main design feature, and key selling point, is the "Correct Cook" option, which uses a sensor to see if the dish has been properly cooked through and through. Basically, "Correct Cook" makes it virtually impossible to over or under cook food. You won't find this feature in any other microwaves.
You must admit this type of feature will appeal to the many microwave users in the West. We at Action are convinced that smart products like the Kitchen Master are the wave of the future.
My department's pride and joy has to be its latest award for productivity and efficiency.
Germany is leading the way in producing and marketing smart products.
We were very disappointed with the results from the new car's first trial run.
But, sir, I cannot sell a product that has no obvious selling points. That's impossible!
wave of the future
As far as I'm concerned, economic, not military power, is the wave of the future.
1. Mr. Mckenzie, let me take you to our showroom.
2. How about taking a look at our latest products in our showroom?
3. If you have time, I'd like to take you to our showroom.
用语以"Let me…","How about"或"If…, I'd like to…"
1. It's only a prototype, but it's a prime example of our future line of smart products.
2. This oven is just an example, but it's going to be our future line of smart products.
3. This model hasn't been marketed yet, but we know it's going to be a top-seller.
It's only…, but it's…"。
1. Basically, "Correct Cook" makes it virtually impossible to over or under cook food.
2. Essentially, "Correct Cook" is mistake-proof.
3. The bottom line here is that "Correct Cook" is mistake-proof.
1. You must admit this type of feature will appeal to the many microwave users in the West.
2. You have to agree that this feature will appeal to the many users of microwaves in the West.
3. I think you have to acknowledge that this feature will appeal to the many users of microwaves in the West.

Presenting an Advertising Plan
I'm here today to present my research about the advertising campaign for the Kitchen Master microwave oven. Since this is a new product, our main goal is to establish brand awareness among our target audience, which is working women, aged 25 to 40.
According to my figures, of the working women we polled, 50% said they read at least one of the top-five selling women's magazines in Taiwan. And a full 80% said they watch at least one hour of television each night.
If you'll take a look at this chart, the best media mix, then, would be a combination of TV and magazine advertisements. I suggest 60% of the budget go toward spot ads, 35% toward print ads, and 5% toward outdoor advertising.
To conclude, even though our target audience is clearly defined, introducing a new product is always a gamble. But with the proper media mix we can certainly lessen the chance of failure.
awareness"由"aware"变化而来,后者为形容词,有‘知晓;注意到’的意思。"
To increase brand awareness, we will have to advertise on TV to reach the largest possible audience.
Our current ads are not reaching the target audience. We'll have to make some changes.
With the proper media mix, you can effectively reach your target audience.
Spot ads are the most expensive and usually the most effective.
The designer's specialty is creating breathtaking print ads.
1. Our main goal is to establish brand awareness among our target audience.
2. Our main purpose is to establish brand awareness among our target audience.
3. The main objective is to establish brand awareness among our target audience.
1. According to my figures, of the working women we polled, 50% said they read at least one of the top-five selling women's magazines in Taiwan.
2. The numbers we have show that of the working women we polled, 50% said they read at least one of the top-five selling women's magazines in Taiwan.
3. As the facts prove, of the working women who responded to our poll, 50% read one of Taiwan's top-five selling women's magazines.
1. If you'll take a look at this chart, the best media mix, then, would be a combination of TV and magazine ads.
2. By looking at the chart you can see that the best media mix would be a combination of TV and magazine ads.
3. As you can tell by the chart, the best media mix would be a combination of TV and magazine ads.
1. To conclude, even though our target audience is clearly defined, introducing a new product is always a gamble.
2. In summary, even though we have defined our target audience, introducing a new product is always a gamble.
3. I've shown you how to reach our target audience, yet I also think introducing a new product is always a gamble.
to conclude","in summary"或"I think"都是做结论的实用词汇。

Thanking Your Clients
May I have your attention, please. I'd like to take a moment to offer my sincere thanks to Bob Mckenzie and Andrea Lloyd of Standard Suppliers.
As you know, Standard and Action have inked an agreement to distribute five major Action brands in Canada. This joint venture is cause to celebrate because it marks Action's entry into the Canadian appliance market.
We couldn't have asked for a better business partner. With Action's groundbreaking appliances and Standard's well-established distribution network, we can both stay one step ahead of the competition.
I think I speak for all my fellow employees when I say that we at Action are delighted to be working with an industry leader like Standard. I anticipate nothing but growth for our companies over the next few years.
A joint venture with a European company would be the best way to enter the European market.
couldn't have asked for (对…)
I couldn't have asked for a better employee. Richard can do everything!
To enter the U.S. market, we need a company with an extensive distribution network.
To stay one step ahead of the Japanese computer giants, Taiwan companies consistently research new methods and designs.
AT&T, an industry leader in American telecommunications, is rapidly expanding into Europe.
1. I'd like to take a moment to offer my sincere thanks to Bob Mckenzie of Standard Suppliers.
2. Allow me to take a moment to express my sincere thanks to Bob Mckenzie of Standard Suppliers.
3. I'd like to take this time to say thank you to Bob Mckenzie of Standard Suppliers.
I'd like to…" take a moment"表示'占用极短的时间'。"
1. As you know, Standard and Action have inked an agreement to distribute five major Action brands in Canada.
2. You may already know Standard and Action have inked an agreement to distribute five major Action products in Canada.
3. As you are well aware, Standard Suppliers has agreed to distribute five major Action products in Canada.
As you know","You may already know"这样的说法。
1. We couldn't have asked for a better business partner.
2. We are very fortunate to be in partnership with Standard Suppliers.
3. It's our great fortune to work with Standard Suppliers.
1. I think I speak for all my fellow employees when I say that we at Action are delighted to be working with an industry leader like Standard.
2. I believe my feelings are shared by all of us at Action when I say we are delighted to be working with Standard Suppliers.
3. Let me express a feeling that is shared by all of us at Action; we are delighted to be working with Standard Suppliers.

Giving a Report at a Company Meeting
To begin, let's take a look at the distribution contract we just signed with Standard Suppliers. I believe each of you has a copy.
Looking over the numbers, you get an idea of what Standard expects from us in terms of monthly shipments. I think you'll agree that our necks are on the line here.
This leads me to my first concern. Frankly speaking, we're worried that current productivity can not keep up with demand. Mr. Gibson and I have gone over Action's operating expenses, and we believe that there is room to both expand and upgrade facilities.
The best place to start is Action's mainstay - the assembly line. What we'd like each of you to do is to go over your respective operations, make recommendations about improving production, and report back to us.
neck(s) is(are) on the line
I hope you know what you're doing because we're really putting our necks on the line.
If our operating expenses exceed sales, we won't be able to make a profit.
keep up with 配合,保持
Can our factory keep up with the incoming orders for the next six months?
in terms of…
He used to think of everything in terms of money.
Working on an assembly line can be incredibly boring and tiring.
1. To begin, let's take a look at the distribution contract we just signed with Standard Suppliers.
2. Let's get started by taking a look at the Standard distribution contract.
3. To get started, I'd like you to go over the distribution contract we just signed with Standard Suppliers.
1. I think you'll agree that our necks are on the line here.
2. Don't you agree that Action is taking a risk with this new contract?
3. We're certainly all aware of the risks with this new contract.
1. Frankly speaking, we're worried that current productivity can not keep up with demand.
2. To be honest, we're worried that current productivity can not keep up with demand.
3. Basically, there is concern about productivity levels not keeping up with demand.
Frankly speaking"、"To be honest"(坦白说),这样的词汇加重口气。
1. What we'd like each of you to do is go over your respective operations, make recommendations about improving production, and report back to us.
2. What we recommend is that each of you evaluates your departments and makes recommendations for improvement.
3. We'd like to see each of you go over your operations, and think of where we can improve production.
用间接语法的句子如"what we'd like", "what we recommend",可使语气婉转,让听者较没有被命令的感觉。

At the Announcement of Your Promotion
Thank you, Mr. Gibson. It's a great honor to be following in your footsteps as Overseas Sales Manager.
To be honest, this promotion came as quite a surprise. I'd like to think it's mainly a recognition of the teamwork, above and beyond the call of duty, in my department.
On that same note, I'd like to thank all my colleagues in the company for their enthusiasm and hard work. Due to their efforts, we've really gotten some overseas projects off the ground for Action.
Looking to the future, I'd still like to maintain contact with everyone, even though I'll be working at the senior level. Well, what I'm trying to say is I won't let this step-up go to my head. My door will always be open. Thank you again.
follow in one's footsteps (as) 继某人之后
He followed in his famous brother's footsteps to a career in acting.
above and beyond the call of duty
Due to her performance above and beyond the call of duty, she was given a wonderful promotion.
off the ground 开始;已起步
If we can get the new Taichung store off the ground, I think we can control the market there.
The foreign company is active in promoting women to the senior level.
This apartment sure is a step-up from the awful place you used to live in.
go to one's head
That promotion just went to his head, and he never talked to his old friends again.
1. It's a great honor to be following in your footsteps as Overseas Sales Manager.
2. It's a privilege for me to be following in your footsteps as Overseas Sales Manager.
3. It's both an honor and a great thrill to be following in your footsteps.
It's a great honor (privilege) to …"
1. To be honest, this promotion came as quite a surprise.
2. Truthfully, this promotion came as quite a surprise.
3. In all honesty, it was quite a surprise for me to get this promotion.
to be honest"、"truthfully"或"in all honesty"是强调你说的都是'真心话'。"
1. On that same note, I'd like to thank all my colleagues in the company for their enthusiasm and hard work.
2. Similarly, I must thank all my colleagues in the company for their enthusiasm and hard work.
3. Also, I thank all my colleagues in the company for their enthusiasm and hard work.
note"在此是指「口气、特点」,"on the same note"等于"similarly"或"also"。
1. Well, what I'm trying to say is I won't let this step-up go to my head.
2. I mean I won't let this promotion change me.
3. To put it another way, I won't let this promotion go to my head.
What I'm trying to say…"

An overview of Action's proposed U.S. 1992 public relations campaign. PR Director, Jane Tsai, will lead the discussion. 4. A demonstration by the Design Team of Action's newest washer / dryer combination unit, with a Q&A to follow. 5. The last order of business is my presentation of the projected outlook for Canadian sales.
So, if there are no questions, let's get started. Miss Teng, will you please begin with the minutes from the last quarterly meeting?
call to order 宣布开会
The chairman called the meeting to order.
The first order of business is to elect a President for this assembly.
The President gave the reporters 15 minutes of Q&A after his speech to the nation.
The projected outlook is good for the new line of trucks we want to sell. Consumers seem to want trucks.
1. Good morning everyone.
2. Welcome everyone.
3. I'd like to welcome each of you to this morning's meeting.
1. The meeting is now called to order.
2. I'd like to call this meeting to order.
3. We will now call the meeting to order.
1. According to the agenda, the order of business is as follows:
2. Referring to the agenda, the order of business is as follows:
3. As the agenda lists, the meeting's order of business is as follows:
1. Ms. Teng, will you please begin with the minutes from the last quarterly meeting?
2. Ms. Teng, would you like to begin with the minutes from the last quarterly meeting?
3. Let's begin with Ms. Teng. Will you please read the minutes from the last quarterly meeting?
请他人做事时,"will you please…"

Concluding a Business Meeting
That wraps up the last item on the agenda. Before we close, are there any questions?
Fine. In summary, I think we agree that this quarter's domestic sales figures show a marked trend in microwave sales. Sam, I'd like you to follow up on that, please. Let's see where this is heading. Jane, thank you for the comprehensive PR status report. I understand there are still a few problems to be worked out, but we all trust in your ability. Ladies and gentlemen, the new design is satisfactory. Let's keep Action ahead of the game.
Finally, I appreciate your comments and suggestions about the Canadian sales outlook. This is our first opportunity to promote our products in North America, so we certainly want to cover every detail.
Well, then, that covers everything. I make a motion to close the third quarterly meeting of Action Appliances. Is there a second?
I'd like to quickly wrap up this meeting, so we can go home.
Judging from the graph, you can see a marked trend upward on the Japanese stock exchange.
follow up on (something)
We can take care of that problem when we follow up.
The accounting department is required to submit weekly status reports to our general manager.
work out 解决,完成
Things will work out as long as you are patient.
ahead of the game 领先
She studies hard every day to stay ahead of the game.
1. That wraps up the last item on the agenda.
2. That takes care of the last order of business.
3. That concludes the final order of business.
wrap up"与"conclude"的意思相同,表示‘结束’。"take care of"在此有‘完成’之意。
1. In summary, I think we agree that this quarter's domestic sales figures show a marked trend in microwave sales.
2. Overall, I think we are in agreement about the third quarter's sales figures that show a marked trend in microwave sales.
3. To repeat, we agree that the microwave sales figures are showing a marked trend.
I think we agree…"
1. Finally, I appreciate your comments and suggestions about the Canadian sales outlook.
2. And lastly, thank you for your comments and suggestions about the Canadian sales outlook.
3. In conclusion, I welcome your comments and suggestions about the sales outlook for Canada.
1. I make a motion to close the third quarterly meeting of Action Appliances. Is there a second?
2. I'd like to make a motion to conclude the third quarterly meeting of Action Appliances. Is there a second?
3. I move that we close this quarterly meeting. Do I have a second?

Showing a Newcomer Around
Good morning, Miss Morrison. I hope you didn't have too much trouble with rush hour traffic. Why don't I show you around first?
Here's your desk. My office is behind you and to the left. Your computer terminal is linked to the department's mainframe. By typing in the password "0716", you can have access to any file you'd like to see or compile.
If you aren't aware, we offer a one-day new employee workshop. My associate, Michelle Lo, is in charge of in-service training, so she'll be explaining Action's employee benefits and the day-to-day operations of this department.
I hope all of this isn't too overwhelming. We're a friendly bunch around here, so don't hesitate to ask questions.
have trouble with (something) 有…
He had trouble with the first paragraph and began to read it through a second time.
I always get stuck in rush hour traffic.
I was impressed with the company's emphasis on in-service training.
Before you start working, I'll show you around (the office) so that you can meet everyone.
We are going to ask our boss for better employee benefits.
don't hesitate to +V.
If any problem arises, don't hesitate to call me at home.
1. Why don't I show you around first?
2. How about if I give you a little tour of the office?
3. Let me show you around the department.
1. Here's your desk. My office is behind you and to the left.
2. Over here, you'll find your desk, and my office is right here.
3. Your desk is right over here; my office is right there.
1. If you aren't aware, we offer a one-day new employee workshop.
2. If you haven't heard, Action offers a one-day new employee workshop.
3. By the way, you'll be taking part in a one-day employee workshop.
If you aren't aware",或"If you haven't heard"作为句子的开头。
1. We're a friendly bunch around here, so don't hesitate to ask questions.
2. Everyone is very friendly here, so don't hesitate to ask for help if you have any problems.
3. We'd all like to welcome you, and we'll be here if you have any questions.

At a Farewell Party
Thank you for taking a moment to join us today. As you know, Kate is taking off next week for our Taichung branch office. She has been promoted to regional Accounting Manager for Action's central and southern regions.
Kate has worked hard in our accounting department for three years now, and I'd just like to say that I've heard nothing but good things about her performance! Actually, the employee grapevine says she's a real slavedriver.
Seriously, though, it comes as no surprise to me that you are moving up the Action corporate ladder. Everyone knows you are a hard worker. Accounting isn't going to be the same without you.
Kate, we'd all just like to say congratulations. Please let us know how you're doing, and the best of luck!
take off (for…)
I usually take off for the office at eight every morning.
He worked at the branch office before being transferred to the company's headquarters.
nothing but good things
"nothing but"等于"only",‘唯有’的意思。
Moviegoers across the island have said nothing but good things about the latest Madonna movie.
come as no surprise
The rise in crime in Taiwan comes as no surprise, because that's one of the effects of overcrowding.
move up the corporate ladder
move up"原意是‘往上移动’,在这里即指‘升迁;升官’。"
It takes hard work and a little bit of help and luck to move up the corporate ladder.
not going to be the same without
You've really improved this department; it's just not going to be the same without you.
1. Thank you for taking a moment to join us today.
2. Thanks for joining us here today.
3. I appreciate everyone being here.
1. Kate has worked in our accounting department for three years now.
2. Kate has been in charge of the accounting department three years now.
3. For three years now, Kate has managed the accounting department.
1. Accounting isn't going to be the same without you.
2. Everyone here will certainly miss your hard work and enthusiasm.
3. I know everyone in accounting is going to miss your leadership.
1. Please let us know how you're doing, and best of luck!
2. Best wishes and don't forget to write.
3. Keep in touch, and good luck with everything.
可用"keep in touch"与 don't forget to write"表示希望对方‘保持联络’。另外,"good luck"、"best wishes"和"best of luck"都是祝福的惯用语。

At the Christmas Party
Oh boy, you know I'm not much of a speechmaker. I might just send everybody heading for the door. Where should I begin?
I'll make this short and sweet. This has been a momentous, record-breaking year for Action Appliances. We've successfully entered the Canadian market and the future looks bright for U.S. distribution in 1998.
This lion's share of that success is due to the outstanding efforts of the marketing and sales departments. They've worked their fingers to the bone preparing for the big push overseas.
And now, I'd like to propose a toast. To my fellow colleagues and their families, and to the prosperous future of Action Appliances; cheers and Merry Christmas!
not much of (a) 不是(个)很好的…
不可以用"much of a"表达正面的意思。
He's not much of a scholar.
short and sweet 简短的
Let's make this meeting short and sweet; I have important things to do today.
After her record-breaking performance at the Asian Games, she trained heavily for the Olympics.
The lion's share of yearly sales comes from our line of personal computers.
work one's fingers to the bone
I've worked my fingers to the bone this month, and I need a vacation.
For our first big sales push into Europe, we'll concentrate on the French market.
1. Where should I begin?
2. How should I get started?
3. What is there to say?
1. This has been a momentous, record-breaking year for Action Appliances.
2. The year has been filled with record-breaking events and sales.
3. Action has really come a long way in only one year; we've broken all previous sales figures.
1. The lion's share of that success is due to the outstanding efforts of the marketing and sales departments.
2. A large part of Action's success is due to the outstanding efforts of the marketing and sales departments.
3. Much of the credit for Action's success goes to the outstanding efforts of the marketing and sales departments.
将成就归功于他人时,可用"due to"、"go to"等实用关键词表达。
1. And now, I'd like to propose a toast.
2. If I may, I'd like to make a toast.
3. And now for a toast.
And now", "If I may"可作为转接词,使语气顺畅。此外,可用"I'd like to…"
